School Exams are happening next week. Students routinely refer to these as “mocks”. Does this matter? Yes and No.
No, because despite best efforts over several years the term persists. Students still study for them and turn up on the day (mostly).
Yes, because students need to take the exams seriously i.e. they are used as:
- Identification of areas to improve
- Indication as to if a student should withdraw (usually withdrawal is strongly discouraged)
- Assess a grade if student cannot do end of year external exams due to sickness, death in family etc.
Providing they turn up……. Who probably cares? Teachers will call then School Exams, Students will call them mocks.
