Schools don’t usually have good facilities for development and hosting of web sites and supporting Apache servers, MySQL databases etc… For good reasons most work is developed within a closed environment, however by Year 13 and arguably earlier, students should become acquainted with hosting their work externally. Advantages as I see it are;
- Can show work to their parents/caregivers etc…
- Must deal with privacy and copyright issues
On the advice of others (you know who you are) I have tried http://www.freewebhost.co.nz/ and found it to be quite good. As such, unless I hear good reasons not to I will get my Year 13 students to create their own accounts (with parent authorization of course) and start hosting web sites as appropriate.
