It is not uncommon in staff in schools to collectively sing Maori songs. This gives a nod to bi culturalism and promotes team building, both admirable objectives. The songs when you look at the translations are hymns written for the purpose of praise, adoration or prayer. (Wikipedia)
Is it just me, but I find this practice a little odd in secular schools (it happens in a few that I am aware of). I cannot say I am deeply offended to the point of formally asking WTF, but I could imagine some who might be.
Students by the way can opt out of religious services, can staff I wonder?
