Pond is designed to act as a central hub for digital discovery and participation, where educational resources can be accessed and shared more easily and effectively. It combines the best parts of existing online tools and platforms to create a new, yet familiar, environment.
Ponds objectives are similar to that of the Public Sector Intranet (PSI). No doubt Pond will face the same challenges as the PSI i.e. content that is not easy to get elsewhere and useful collaboration between participants. I found with the PSI that you gained both content and collaboration by leveraging off or creating new communities of interest. Communities of interest are bound by mutual interest and trust, much of this can be found within existing associations such as NZACDITT. Getting groups to migrate to Pond will be a challenge unless there is a serious value proposition, Good will and “please” ain’t going to be enough.
