Schools need help with IT security

Following a recent cyber attack on Hutt Valley High School, I was reminded that our school was overdue for a formal review of security and backup procedures. Informal reviews have been undertaken and assurances by our outsourced IT vendor provided, however, it is now timely for an independent review by an expert.

Hopefully, we asked N4L for advice on how to proceed but their response was not helpful, it is likely not part of their core business(although as a network service provider I assume they audit their own security). Cert NZ has some useful advice, and the “all of government” procurement website also has a list of qualified vendors. My only reservation is that we cannot afford these services.

An independent review, however, may not be optional…
